Summary

A large-scale lyrical guessing game to be used at major events and concerts

About the Project

Three, the mobile telecommunications company, commissioned my employer to create a lyric guessing game for use in major events around the country. I undertook this work fully in all aspects.

This site was worked on as part of my employment at FenechDigital Limited.

The Brief

The brief for Three was to create a lyric guessing game to be played on a tablet and upscaled onto a TV. The premise was simple, they’d be able to input days, select the prompts for the day and then users could play the game and if they scored a certain amount they’d win!

The Approach

The agency I worked at when undertaking this work only used WordPress, personally I would’ve crafted it using Astro with a custom backend however I digress!

I leveraged WordPress’s customisability to handle the data side of the project, using custom post types to segregate results, days and songs. This approach would allow the promotions team to easily manage the content and allowed me to debug through the admin console.

In the frontend I wrote fully custom Javascript logic to handle the gameplay, using asynchronous practices and ensuring the code was well formatted and managed.

This project required the use of the WordPress REST API and Sentry Integration.

The Outcome

The site was incredibly well recieved and was used in major shows around the country as part of a Three promotion. The success from this project then led us to win the contract for the Three Christmas Scanner which I also undertook all development and technical work for.

Reflection and Key Skills

Working on this project for Three was genuinely exciting for me due to the scope and reach that it’d have - the joy I recieved from seeing something I made being used by hundreds of people without any hitches from my code (sentry decided to break however!) was really quite an accomplishment.
